The first phase of the North Market Street Neighborhood was created in 1993 with the implementation of 7 new commercial buildings. The plan for the neighborhood calls for a central street that parallels Route 151 and intersects with Frank Hicks Drive on the western edge of the neighborhood, which provides direct connection to the Fire and Police Stations, Boys and Girls Club and the Senior Center. The second phase of the neighborhood calls for the creation of a variety of first floor ëworkshopí space with residential units located on the upper floors. The buildings are designed to reflect the traditional ëcourtyardí style structures. Residential spaces will focus toward internal courtyards while the first floor retail and workshop space will be oriented toward the neighborhoods internal street network. This second phase of the neighborhood is designed to promote a sense of community with workspace oriented toward artisans and craftsmen structured in a manner that promotes a strong sense of community.
